Getting started

How do I make my card?

Go to app.solobase.org/start. Answer three questions, or start from your GitHub or Bluesky handle, and your card is ready in about a minute. It is free, and no credit card is asked for.

What is on the card?

Your name, your photo, what you do, and whether you are taking clients. It also shows your city, your local hour and your weather, so a client knows when you are likely to reply. Behind it is your Studio Site.

What does the free plan include?

Your Studio on a SoloBase subdomain with the “Made with SoloBase” mark, up to 100 members, one private Client Hub, 2 GB of storage, and 0% of your payments. It stays free until you have earned $1,000 through SoloBase.

Where does my Studio live?

On the free plan, at yourname.solobase.me. That address is yours to share anywhere: your LinkedIn, your email signature, a QR code.

How do I share it?

Every card has a share button and a QR code. Put the link where people look you up, and the QR code wherever you meet them in person.

Your domain and brand

Can I use my own domain?

Yes, on Pro. Your Studio moves to your own domain, and the SoloBase mark goes with the subdomain. Pro opens with billing, which opens soon.

Why is there a SoloBase mark on my card?

A Studio on a solobase.me address carries a small “Made with SoloBase” line. It is how a free Studio pays its way. On your own domain there is no mark.

Will my clients see SoloBase?

As little as possible. Your client sees your name, your photo and your words. SoloBase powers the Studio and stays behind it: no marketplace, no other experts next to you, and nothing on your client’s card statement.

Client Hubs

What is a Client Hub?

A private Hub for one client: the brief at the top, your notes and the files under it, questions attached to the note they are about, and chat. Client Hubs are live.

Who can see a Client Hub?

You and your client: a Client Hub opened when you accept an inquiry holds the two of you. When more people belong in the work, such as a couple or a client’s colleague, invite them into the same Client Hub.

How many Client Hubs can I have?

One on the free plan. Pro and the Studio plan include unlimited Client Hubs.

Can I have calls in a Client Hub?

Yes. Calls run inside a Client Hub, a channel or a direct message, for up to 25 people, with screen sharing; clients can also book a call at your open times. Calls are not recorded.

Payments and Stripe

Where does my client’s money go?

Straight to your own Stripe account. SoloBase never holds it and never appears on your client’s statement.

Does SoloBase take a cut?

No. 0% on every plan. Stripe’s standard processing fees apply, as they would anywhere you use Stripe.

Do I need a Stripe account?

Yes, to take payments. You connect your own account, and the money stays in it.

What can SoloBase do with my Stripe account?

Only what taking payments needs. You give SoloBase a restricted key you create in Stripe, and the guide at solobase.org/help/connect-stripe lists exactly what it allows. It cannot move your money or pay anyone out, and SoloBase never holds your money: it takes 0%.

How do I connect Stripe?

With a restricted key, not a one-click connection: you create it in Stripe, paste it into your Studio, and SoloBase does the rest. The guide at solobase.org/help/connect-stripe walks you through it, test mode first. Stuck? Write to support@solobase.org and Harris will do it with you.

Can I take real payments today?

Yes. Deposits on a proposal, numbered invoices and paid access go to your own Stripe account through the key you connect. Start in Stripe’s test mode if you want to try it first, then go live.

Plans and billing

What do the paid plans cost?

Pro is $29 a month or $290 a year, and the Studio plan is $79 a month or $790 a year. Both take 0% of your payments.

Can I upgrade to Pro today?

Not yet. Billing opens soon, and paid plans open with it. Your free Studio keeps working in the meantime.

What counts toward the $1,000?

Money your clients pay you through checkouts in your Studio. Payments you take anywhere else do not count.

What happens after I pass $1,000 on the free plan?

If you do not upgrade, your Studio stops growing, never stops working. Everything already running keeps running, and everyone who already has access keeps it.

What is a participant-hour?

The unit calls are counted in: people times hours. An hour of 1:1 is two; a one-hour session with ten people is ten. Free includes 10 once, Pro 72 a month, the Studio plan 197 a month. There is no charge beyond that: calls pause until the next month.

What SoloBase leaves to your other tools

Can I manage my tasks here?

Keep your task tool. A Client Hub holds what your client reads and discusses: the plan, the notes, the files and the questions on them.

Can I track my hours?

No. SoloBase has no time tracking. Sell a package or a set scope instead, so the client pays for the result, not the clock.

Is there a dashboard for my business?

No dashboards. You see your inquiries, your Client Hubs and the questions on each note, which is what needs you.

Can clients sign contracts here?

Yes, for proposals: you send the scope and price in your client’s Client Hub, they sign by typing their name, and the signed proposal is kept as a PDF. For a contract your lawyer drafted, keep the tool you use for it.

Can I share passwords in a Client Hub?

Please don’t. Use a password manager and share access from there; don’t paste passwords into a Client Hub.

Can I keep medical records here?

No. SoloBase isn’t built for medical records or insurance billing; keep those in the system your practice uses.

Can SoloBase bring me clients?

No, and on purpose. They are where you are found. SoloBase is where you are hired: your card and your Client Hubs turn the people who already look you up into clients.

Privacy and data

Who can see what?

Your card and your Studio Site are public, so a referral can find them. A client’s Client Hub is private: only you and the people you let in can open it.

Does SoloBase show me to other people, or other experts to my clients?

No. There is no directory, no feed and no marketplace. People reach your Studio because someone gave them your name or your link.

Where can I read the details?

The security page at solobase.org/security explains how your data and your clients’ payments are handled. For anything else about your data, write to support@solobase.org.

Still stuck?

Write to support@solobase.org with what you were trying to do, and we will answer.
